Manicure, Bachmann, Secret Recipe
VIETNAM HOUSE NAILS ART
101 Yishun Avenue 5 Chong Pang City #01-41
Singapore 760101
Tel: +65 62570455
Feeling vain, I went for a gelish manicure at Vietnam House for the very first time. Vietnam House is a small and cozy mani/pedi neighbourhood shophouse in Yishun. Served by friendly Vietnameses, it provides complimentary drinks for its customers too. My purple bling bling nails were neatly done and I was pretty pleased. Heh. $25 for an hour plus of gelish manicure............ I think it's pretty worth it!
Teeeheheheheheehe like a princess!
Then I left for PS to meet YS for an early birthday dinner with him @ Bachmann Jap Restaurant. We had the traditional nabeyaki. I would say it's the smoothest and slipperiest udon I've ever tasted in a Jap Restaurant. Oishi! We ended the night with a turkish delight cake at Secret Recipe..... well, what's a celebration without a cake right?

STAR Concert
First, happy 23rd birthday to my birthday boy, Sebastian Quek :)
We went for the STAR Concert @ The Meadow, Gardens by the Bay. See my first short visit here!
The concert is scheduled to start at 6.30pm till around 10pm. We reached around 4.30pm after getting stuck for half an hour queuing for parking lots. Man, what's new in Singapore right?
Here's the very first picture taken while we were walking along the STAR carnival, trying to figure out what's happening. Cosplay? Caricature? Photo-taking? Free gifts? Donations?
In the end, we just squeezed through the crowd and went to Peach Garden Noodle House for an early dinner. The setting looks like a food court right? I was quite impressed that it still brought out the "Gardens by the Bay" feel with its decor! :)
I wanted to get some junk food at the STAR carnival F&B booth so we only had some light soup noodles for dinner. Very fresh prawns (the dumpling skin was quite thick though), super hot soup and normal thin noodles. It's been a while since I ate something light like this for dinner so it felt quite homely. ^^ It's $7.00 per bowl! ($8.19 after GST and svc charge to be exact)
Oh and this was the junk food I was talking about. $7.00 for this..... the prata was very hard and oily, the smoked duck wasn't so tender and the vege was bitter. Bad!
Let's move on! Highlight of the day: STAR Concert, here we come!
6pm - crowds already started to form! Man! Didn't know STAR concert would be so popular.
6.30pm + - official concert starting time. I swear there were more people that weren't captured in this shot!
The concert started with some performers whom I did not hear of before.. =x They did vocals, flute and basically loud music to induce the concert feel. Next, the very first band that came up was BOYS LIKE GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were super duper duper awesome and brought up everyone's mood to a higher level. I love those rockers for making me look forward to hopefully equally good, if not better performances to come.
I think Boys like Girls performed for around an hour. I'm not a super fan of theirs but they were really very good and I enjoyed their grand performance. I wish I could be on the stage with them to feel how it'd be like to have so many people looking at you.
Well the birthday boy likes boys like girls! As for me, read on to see who attracted me most!
Next up - three solo local performers - 2004 Singapore Idol Winner Taufik Batisah, 2006 Singapore Idol Winner Hady Mirza and finally Tanya Chua, Golden Melody Award-winning Singaporean singer and songwriter. Hmm, I would say Taufik did a very good dance performance, Hady did some malay songs which I caught no ball and Tanya was an amazing bilingual singer who kept switching between English and Mandarin songs. Haha.
Everyone got impatient when Tanya seemed to have quite a couple of songs to share... I admit I was also one of those impatient ones because I really really waited very long for the final performance. X_X
WHO? WHO? WHO? WHO? 4 MINUTE. Yes K Pop Korean Hot Girls 4 minute! I was attracted solely because of 4 minute, I admit. =P
They FINALLY appeared around late 9pm (or was it 10pm)? Fans went mad, screamed, shouted, anything and everything when 4 minute finally got on stage. Saranghaeyo! :D :D :D :D :D
After I FINALLY saw 4 minute, I felt like woah everything was so worth it. LOL. I'm not a mega mad fan but I was just very pleased that I got to see them in real life. They only did around a half hour performance? I could sense the fans disappointments BUT BUT BUT everyone got excited again when 4 minute did an ENCORE performance :)
Yay, I was overall satisfied with the STAR concert!
We ended our late night with DIY ice creams from ICE 3. Birthday boy chose rocky road while I picked mint. Rocky road was something chocolatey and marshmellowy, just the way I think he likes. The mint with choc chips was much more refreshing compared to the common mint I usually tasted. One thing I noticed about the ice creams - they don't melt so easily! It's quite sticky chewy type which I really liked. Super cooling! Heh. We had sliced bananas, chopped strawberries, brownie cubes and walnuts as our toppings. Heavenly match. One of the best DIY desserts we enjoyed together.
Happy birthday!

The Icing Room
The Icing Room (Causeway Point)
Location: Woodlands Square, #B1-K08 Causeway Point
Birthday cakes are traditions of celebrating one's birthday. I always look forward to a beautiful cake every year so I could capture it on my cam. Yesterday, I had the most unique birthday cake ever because it was a colourfully hand decorated cake by my family. Kudos to The Icing Room for having self customised cakes. I think it's so personalised and simply sincere.
Here's the one and only design you can find in this world. Very simple but very sincere. Thank you my dearest family!
We bought the chocolate cake but there's not much chocolate taste in it. I loved the layer of blueberry inside tho! I get excited when my cakes have blueberries inside for me to chew on (not the blueberry jam, but the blueberry itself!) Otherwise, it would be so boring if it's just plain spongy chocolate cake with no filling. Anyway, I found the cake too moist. When you eat it, it's like so wet and not spongy enough. But it's okay, afterall the main purpose was to have a nicely designed cake. Ahahahahaahaa.
Papa's birthday is in August. I would probably return to The Icing Room and draw up a cake for him!

The Best of Singapore Zoo
Hi people! Did you know that I've always wanted to visit the zoo because there's complimentary tickets for all birthday boys and girls of all ages?! I finally spent my fruitful birthday this 2012 at the zoo! Fyeah! It brought back awesome childhood memories with my family. It's great to feel like a kid on an excursion.
My overall experience from the zoo trip was I felt like I was in a jungle trail, constantly walking about to look out for animals. You know sometimes the animal just camouflage itself amongst those trees, branches, etc and I spent most of the time asking my family, "Where ah? Where the animal?" I saw lots of reptiles and different versions of monkeys. Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......... yes I saw kangaroo, rhino, hippo, crocodile, goat, zebra, rabbit, tortoise, fishes, ducks, birds, butterflies, flying foxes and some common animals so I shall skip those.
Let me bring you through just the best of what I've seen in the zoo, especially those animals that I rarely or have never seen in my life unless I visit the zoo.
The one and only white tiger pacing up and down in the zoo. It looked so hungry but it's really pretty!
I've seen a lot of this face creature in the zoo. Ew!
In fact, I've been frantically searching for animals amongst the trees and branches. This was one of my fav finds! Such a nice colour right?
Cassowary, an omnivore and a very large bird.
Can you spot the animal? I got a little freaked out when I saw it. LOL.
Let me pause to check... I hope you're satisfied with the animals you can see in the zoo so far!
Sun Wu Kong!!!!!!!!!
Sea Lion's best flip shot!
Training the elephant to draw... the way it held the pencil is so cute right?
Notice the monkey eating the banana?!
A creature that looks like a snake head + crocodile body.
*Take a break* Let's talk about food! Being the birthday girl, we headed to Ah Meng Restaurant for my free scoop of ice cream + 10% discount for all F&B. Yay!
$8.90 chicken rice and $9.50 fish and chips. Thankfully, the chicken doesn't taste like those normal chicken rice that you could get from coffee shops. The roasted skin was very fragrant and the chicken was very hot, soft and had a unique taste. It's one of the recommendations at Ah Meng Restaurant and I found it worth the try too! As for the fish and chips..... it's a little pricey and sadly it wasn't hot enough when served to us. Bahhhh.... let's move on!
Let me feed you with more animal pictures after lunch time. This was a hungry giant tortoise!
See what I mean? I don't really enjoy seeing so many versions of these freaky looking creatures in the zoo!
And like I mentioned there're many kinds of monkeys....
Pretty spotted mousedeers! Finally a decent cute find after seeing so many gross looking creatures. =P
There're lots of snakes and this was my favourite. Super duper like its slimness + greeness!
White horse prince charming. Not as good looking as the one I saw at Riders Cafe!
Chimpanzee.
I officially declare this mandrill as my favourite find in the zoo. I just fell in love with it and I don't know why too!
Proboscis monkey, omg the nose is gross can?
"The fragile forest" was the best trail in the zoo. I had such close proximity to ring tailed lemurs! No doubt they have fierce faces but I guess they must be harmless since there were so many of them walking about around me... Ahhhh!!! Finally I felt like I was exploring the zoo with some sense of excitement and not zooming in my cam all the time for close up pics. This ring tailed lemur ran so fast that I couldn't touch it at all. Oh well I say only, I don't think I'd dare to touch it :x
A very old looking lion. I was hoping I could watch it move about but it actually stayed in that position for so long that I gave up waiting...
And I moved on to look at giraffes.
Such a cutie walking!
Cheetah! It must be saying STOP snapping my pic. Ahahahahahaa.
Orang Utan!
Some kind of bear looking innocent. Tsk.
Ok, I'm done with my long entry of "The Best of Singapore Zoo". I hope you all had a good virtual trip here with me! :D
XOXO
